Peter Preuss
The Red Sands of Hattah is an account of how Australians have come to accept the killing of native Australian wildlife, even within natural places like National Parks. The precedent for the killing of kangaroos on a large scale within National Parks was set in the 1980s in Hattah-Kulkyne National Park in northwest Victoria. This book documents how the conservation and animal welfare movements initially came together to stop this from happening. Unfortunately, the campaign ultimately failed to protect kangaroos which continue to be killed in their millions every year throughout Australia.
Peter Preuss has been an active environmentalist since the 1970s. He was President of the Australian Wildlife Protection Council during much of the 1980s and early 90s while campaigning to stop the mass killing of kangaroos in Hattah-Kulkyne National Park.
